Daum Nancy and Antique Shops

Things To Consider Before Selling To An Antique Shop

Local antique shops are usually our biggest competition when it comes to buying Daum glass. If you take your Daum glass to an antique store there are several likely outcomes:

1) The shop doesn’t know what Daum is and doesn’t care to learn and refuses to make an offer.

2) The shop knows exactly what Daum is and they hope you don’t. They will make a really low offer and try to rip you off.

3) The shop vaguely knows that Daum can be rare and they casually mention some unrealistically high number for a value. These dealers will never make an offer at this high price, but they don’t want to admit that they don’t know everything about everything.

4) The best shops out there will have a network of people who appraise specialty items for them. Their appraisal specialists are the same people who end up purchasing what the shop buys. You can probably get a reasonable offer from a shop like this, but they are still just the middleman between another middleman and the collector.

If you want to deal with someone locally we suggest taking our offer and seeing if the local antique shop will match or beat it. Do not walk into an antique store with a Daum piece and just assume you are being treated fairly. Do your homework and get the best price.
